Recordar é viver.
That's why I want to dedicate this song to everyone of you. To every friend and every fan and every radio D. J. too. Every reggae reporter, producer, promoter I'd just like to say thank you.

SURFING FAVELA

"Surfing Favela" was shot with the aid of the communities of Cantagalo and Rocinha; the latter, with its 250,00 inhabitants, is considered the biggest slum in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The documentary richly portrays the daily tasks of a group of surfers that helps the youth of their own community to discover in surfing, a direct bridge to freedom and nature. The characters spend their days between the hills and the sea, trying to turn their projects into a sustained reality. But with so many difficulties and opposing forces, their small actions become nothing but truly enormous feats. Their testimony is a new generation of young surfers who defy their environments limitations by choosing the surfing lifestyle over the never-ending cycle of local violence, corruption and drugs.

"Surfing Favela" was selected as a finalist for the THE FUEL EXPERIMENT, an international contest sponsored by Fuel TV(USA) - the only Latin American Project to reach the Top Ten. The contest grants young talents of the Extreme Sports Audiovisual Industry with the complete funds to make their films a reality.

SURFSTYLE SKATEBOARDING

We all know that skateboarding was created by surfers on days of flat waves. But it had come to such a giant dimension that nowadays it already became a unique sport with its own manouvers and riding style.

Back in the years those guys in California used to watch the surfmovies and then go to the streets to try to immitate the turns, cut backs and grab rails. Today the kids are growing up watching guys like Burnquist shredding bowls and half pipes, or even throwing kick flips on the streets, and this is what they want to imitate.

Despite of this fact, there`s a place in the south of Brazil called Parque do Marinha in the city of Porto Alegre where that surfstyle skateboarding is not only still alive, but its evolving and gettin as sick as you cannot even imagine.
I don`t think that skateboarding can get any closer to surf than this.
Meet the kids from Marinha, (the vala).
